Toxic Mold
A commonly used term to describe molds—such as Stachybotrys chartarum—that can produce harmful byproducts called mycotoxins. Often referred to as “black mold” or “toxic black mold,” these molds became widely known in the 1990s due to reported health issues in contaminated buildings. While only a few mold species are considered toxigenic, all mold can pose health risks, especially to individuals with allergies or weakened immune systems. It’s important to note that not all toxic molds are black, and not all black molds are toxic.
